This impressive country house in the picturesque village of Harmston, Lincolnshire has been completely modernised by its new owners, who selected our Deco Frozen Umber herringbone to create a uniform floor finish flowing through the principal living spaces.
Situated in the highly sought-after village of Harmston — prized for its peaceful rural setting while offering excellent commuter links into London — the five-bedroom detached property spans over 7,500 sq ft of living space.
The scale and proportions of the home provided an exceptional opportunity to reimagine a traditional country house interior as a contemporary family home.
Internally, the property had previously been styled in a more conventional and traditional manner, and the new owners had a clear vision to modernise and redesign the entire home.
The ground floor in particular offered an abundance of space to reconfigure, including four reception rooms, a generous kitchen, a large games room and a gym.
Central to the redesign was the desire to maximise the home’s relationship with its terrace and expansive private gardens.
Previously separate living and dining rooms that faced the gardens were combined to create a large open-plan kitchen and entertaining space. This elongated room has been carefully zoned to incorporate a relaxed seating area, a dining zone and the main kitchen area, anchored by an impressive central island that now acts as the social heart of the home.
A long run of sliding patio doors flood the space with natural light, and create the desired connection to the outdoors.
The newly configured spaces across the ground floor have been subtly divided using internal Crittall-style doors, allowing areas to feel open and connected, while still offering separation when required.
The original kitchen has been transformed into a formal dining room, where oversized potted plants provide a dramatic entrance, complementing the soft green tones of the furnishings.
These immaculately designed spaces connect back to the impressive central hallway, where a handcrafted solid oak staircase rises to the first floor.
Flooring played a pivotal role in the redesign. With the renovation centred on improving connectivity and flow, it was essential that the floor finish would unify the different spaces, whilst also reinforcing the natural connection between inside and out.
A wood floor felt like the natural choice to support this concept, and in particular a herringbone layout, as its zig-zag weave pattern would create a natural flow through the home - instinctively guiding the eye from one room to the next.
The home's colour palette contrasts the darker tones of the Crittall-style doors and joinery, with a softer spectrum of earthy neutrals. The mid-tone oak of our Frozen Umber herringbone felt the perfect fit to balance this, bringing natural, earthy oak hues into the home.
Frozen Umber, from our Deco Collection, is brushed and textured, before subtle grey coloured oils are applied across the surface which settle in the grain. This creates a beautiful mid-tone oak floor with darker rustic grains washing over the surface.
The herringbone floors have been installed in the central hallway, flowing seamlessly into the expansive open-plan kitchen space. The pattern transitions effortlessly across the different zones within this room. The flooring continues into the formal dining room and a renovated family living room, all interconnected by generous hallways where the herringbone weave subtly draws you forward.
Throughout the home, the warm oak tones echo the surrounding landscape, bringing a sense of nature indoors, and harmonising effortlessly with the colour palette. The result is an interior that achieves the perfect balance of understated luxury and organic elegance.
