ZB203 White Smoked Oak parquet is chosen by Architectural Designer Emmanualle Sirven as the perfect blend of warmth and pattern to be the ideal fit in this Victorian home renovation.
This Victorian house in Clapham was in major need of a comprehensive renovation. London based Architectural Designer Emmanualle Sirven was tasked with stripping the house back to basics, ready to re-introduce both elegant Victorian charm, alongside modern design to suit family life.
“My clients were a family with young children. They wanted a finished design that would embrace both the Victorian character of the property, whilst introducing contemporary elements that would work-well for family life."
“I re-instated decorative plaster cornices, mouldings and other details that encapsulate Victorian home design, and I felt a herringbone wood floor would be a perfect design element to bring both period character and modern charm into the spaces.”

Warm colours and strong patterns were central to Emmanualle’s designs. She selected our Deco Parquet White Smoked Oak for its natural warmth and the herringbone’s naturally elegant aesthetic.
“The proportions of the blocks were just what was needed to fit the scale of the rooms, and the herringbone pattern adds that sense of period feature with a modern twist.”
It’s not only the warmth and shape of the floors that fit perfectly in this family home. With very young children the choice of an engineered wood floor also provides a durable and easy to maintain surface that will fit into family life for a long-lasting and sustainable floor.
White Smoked Oak is created from European Oak which is stored in a smoke filled chamber to naturally age the timber and darken the grains. The smoked surface is then brushed and sealed with white UV cured natural oils to give them their muted earthy hues and natural appearance, whilst also providing a protective top surface.
“My clients are so happy with the floors. They are such a great fit in the design and have provided the backdrop to allow all of the other elements to come together harmoniously. They are standing up really well to family life too.”
