New Builds, South Downs

Two beautiful new-build homes, located by the South Downs National Park, have their contemporary open-plan living spaces filled with the naturally light oak tones of ZB204 Shore Drift Oak herringbone.

Enviably located on the edge of the South Downs National Park, these two impressive new-build homes have been designed to sit sensitively in their environment, complementing the local vernacular, whilst embracing the modern eco-build interpretation of a village home.

“Being sensitive to our surroundings in both the design and build specification was essential to us. We tried to source as much of the build materials as locally as possible, such as larch from our local sawmill and bricks from the Chailey brick-yard. For the flooring we wanted something that would naturally connect to our rural setting, so wood seemed the natural choice.”

After being introduced to the V4 Deco Herringbone Collection, there was one floor that stood-out as the prefect fit.

“Firstly, we were really impressed with the quality, the blocks looked and felt so impressive. We wanted these homes to stand-out from other developments, so despite our sales agents suggesting alternative materials like vinyl, real wood floors really felt the right way to go."

“And also, the Shore Drift Oak finish had such a lovely light and authentic aesthetic. It felt perfect to accentuate the large, light-filled living spaces we had designed, connecting so organically to the outside surroundings.”

Sustainability was a core consideration throughout the design and build. The homes feature air source heat pumps with underfloor heating, triple-glazed windows, electric vehicle charging, and solar panels sufficient to power the house. The sustainable qualities of our wood flooring adds further eco-credentials to the properties.

At V4 we have always taken an environmentally conscious approach to wood flooring, ensuring all of our products are made using responsibly sourced timber that supports sustainable forestry practices to reduce environmental impact.

The chosen Shore Drift Oak floors sit so harmoniously with the neutral tones of the bespoke kitchens, and the expanse of doors and windows allows so much natural light to filter into the rooms, further accentuating the bright ambience in these spaces.

“The kitchens were fitted first, and then we handed over the job of the flooring installation to Neil and his team at We Know Flooring who did an incredible job in perfecting the beautiful herringbone pattern as it runs throughout the spaces. They were able to advise us on the sequencing of laying the floors, in such a big space it needed to be just right from the kitchen fitting and electrics and plumbing, to the thresholds for doorways.

“And we are so delighted with the results! Everyone who has visited complements the floors, and then asks where we got them from. We wanted a simple, light filled design, and that is how the homes feel, and the flooring plays a huge roll in that. V4 came highly recommended, and we’ve been impressed from start to finish with their quality and customer support.

“We designed the homes to be fit for the future, so the V4 level of guarantee, and future ability to re-sand the floors in time with use, adds to those credentials.”
