This impressive Surrey home has undergone a complete two-year renovation to create a beautiful, functional family residence. Designed by Saskia Kate Interiors, the project features our DC203 White Smoked Oak planks, chosen to enhance the elegant ground-floor living spaces.
In need of complete modernisation, and with plans to also extend and create a substantial new basement level, the owners of the home chose to collaborate with interior design studio Saskia Kate Interiors, specialists in luxury renovations and new-builds, to help them realise their vision for a home that would feel luxurious and elegant, but also well-suited to family life.
Bec explains, “We always take a truly collaborative approach with not just our main client, but also the architects and contractors involved, so we can fully unlock the potential of a project and exceed expectations. Once we understood the proposed extension plans, and how the family wanted to experience the home, we began the early stages of concept development.”
“I’d describe the overall design direction as refined organic simplicity – sophisticated without being pretentious.”
To support this organic approach, Bec immediately envisioned wood flooring throughout the ground floor. “I knew it would be a fantastic choice, not only to establish a cohesive flow across the open-plan areas, but also to create a beautiful foundation for the warm, organic aesthetic that informed our design concept.”
Having worked with V4 on previous projects, Bec had a good knowledge of our collections, and after briefly considering a herringbone design, decided that actually the simplicity of wider planks would be better suited for this project, providing a clean, understated backdrop for the rest of design.
“I chose the Deco White Smoked Oak as it felt so naturally organic with its authentic warmth, charming knots and grains, and subtle colour variations. It would be perfect to sit effortlessly with the earthy organic tones that were going to be introduced around it inside the home.”
To create their natural warmth, our White Smoked Oak planks are stored in a smoke filled chamber which subtly ages the timber and darkens the grains. This surface is then brushed and sealed with clear white oils, which add beautiful muted, earthy hues across the surface.
The generously sized oak planks flow seamlessly throughout the ground floor, enhancing the sense of space and creating a natural, intuitive flow between rooms.
From the impressive entrance hallway, through to the elegant living room, the flooring adds modern character and natural charm, harmonising beautifully with the neutral colour palette, earthy accents, and warm brass and bronze hardware.
In the kitchen, the floor’s oak tones sit perfectly with the warm earthy green paint used to finish the shaker cabinetry, and natural light floods the space, connecting indoor and outdoor living, creating a bright and welcoming environment that is ideal for family life.
When it came to furnishings, Bec advised her clients to invest in key bespoke pieces. “We designed bespoke sofas, benches, and ottomans in durable yet beautiful fabrics, creating pieces that could withstand the demands of busy family life, while fitting the design perfectly.”
Asked to choose a favourite part of the project, Bec's response was simple. “All of it! This was such an incredible project and client to work with. They are so delighted with the finished home too, and the chosen wood floors. They love how the floors feel sophisticated, whilst bringing a subtle touch of rustic charm into the home.”
