19th Century Home, Surrey Hills

Located in the heart of the Surrey countryside, this 19th-Century home is given a refresh with our Shore Drift Oak parquet flooring

Located near the beautiful Surrey Hills, this Sussex Tile Hung house dates back to circa 1872 and offers beautiful views of the surrounding natural beauty.

When the Goldsworthy’s moved in 8 years ago, they fell in love with the house’s high ceilings and breathtaking scenery, but felt the interiors needed updating to add a more refreshing style.

Drawing lots of inspiration from Pinterest, the couple began to piece their dream home design together, to create a modern yet classic interior.

When it came to the flooring, Simon Goldsworthy explains that they had always wanted to use an oak floor, and felt the classy and decorative design that a herringbone style offered would be the perfect choice for their home.

With that in mind, Simon and his wife took a visit to our Surrey Design Centre where they could browse large samples of our extensive collection of flooring solutions. Following an appointment with one of our showroom consultants, the couple chose our Shore Drift Oak from the Deco Herringbone collection.

Shore Drift Oak has been designed to bring a look of raw untreated oak into the home. The oak surface is simply brushed and sealed with an invisible natural lacquer to maintain the woods authenticity, whilst providing a protective surface. The result is a floor that is both distinctive and natural in design, and a perfect fit in both traditional and modern home design.

This ‘paler’ finish stood out to the Goldsworthys, who felt the subtle character would be the perfect flooring solution for their home. Drawing upon a design they had seen online, the couple then chose to pair the Shore Drift Oak with a brass inlay, installed by We Know Flooring, creating a contemporary-classic flooring design.

The light oak flooring perfectly compliments the handmade wooden kitchen units, which topped with a marble work surface, offer a simple yet stylish aesthetic.

Combined with Farrow & Ball’s Clunch wall paint, the design sits effortlessly against the scenic surroundings, which thanks to the large glass doors, is the focal point of the kitchen.

Overall, the couple were able to achieve a contemporary design, that honours traditional features such as the high ceilings and the kitchen well, whilst offering the refreshing style desired.
