Find out who won the 2024 Cube Awards, hosted by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen
This September we hosted our annual V4 Cube Awards, bringing together our brilliant network of flooring experts, designers, architects and homeowners, to mark the end of summer by celebrating the very best in flooring and design. This year’s awards saw the return of TV presenter and interior designer, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, who hosted the ceremony and was joined on stage by this year’s sponsors, Mapei, Bjelin and Rubio Monocoat to present our winners with their iconic Cube Awards and prizes. Held at our Surrey Design Centre in Woking, guests were greeted by music from the live jazz band and handcrafted cocktails from The Bar Tailors, before enjoying a tasty bite of wood-fired pizza by the brilliant Leather and Willow. New this year, our V4 Garden display, complete with Bramble Crest garden furniture offers the perfect place to relax and enjoy the late summer evenings whilst browsing the brilliant selection of Millboard decking and cladding available at V4.
This year’s ceremony featured three highly anticipated categories: Best Home Design, Best Commercial Design, and Best Retail Design, with each category celebrating 10 standout projects. From cosy home designs to impressive commercial spaces, the shortlisted installations truly demonstrated the versatility and beauty that wood flooring can bring to any design. Above all, each project showcased the creativity and craftsmanship of our incredible network of flooring experts, as Laurence went on to discuss…
"The V4 Cube awards have quickly become THE highlight of my Autumn schedule, I love celebrating a British industry that’s going from strength to strength where design quality and craftsmanship come together with such vigour and spend the evening partying hard with each other”.
The awards kicked off with Best Home Design, which was sponsored by Rubio Monocoat. In joint third place, we had Melanie Sinclaire and Emma Morris! Melanie transformed her open plan kitchen area with our Natureffect Laminate floors to create a warm and inviting, scandinavian inspired design. Whilst Emma Morris paired our Rustic Oak plank with muted green shaker style units to create a timeless family kitchen. In second place, we had Caroline and Paul Wilson, who after a visit to the Surrey Design Centre chose Smoked Oak herringbone from our Deco Parquet collection to transform their 90’s kitchen, blending contemporary warmth with rustic design. And in first place, we had Emma Snow! Emma and her partner used Barleycorn Oak flooring from our brand new Natureffect Mineral Core collection to create a design that offered the aesthetic of real wood, whilst being both hardwearing and easy to care for.
Next Laurence presented the Commerical design category, which was sponsored by Mapei. Celebrating the hard work of our talented network of interior designers, architects, and flooring contractors. The shortlisted design highlighted the vast array of project types, from residential developments to restaurant and office designs, each expertly complete with a V4 flooring solution, guaranteed by our commercial warranty. In third place, we had interior designers, Slightly Quirky who transformed their client’s London home with a complete ground floor reconfiguration, before creating a seamless design with our Smoked Oak herringbone to add a modern elegance. In second place was Bridge Flooring, who were presented with their silver cube award for their extraordinary work on the brand new Coppa Club restaurant in Cardiff. Complete with Tannery Brown plank and parquet from our Deco collections, the restaurant design was both contemporary and sympathetic to the building’s iconic heritage. There could however only be one winner, and the commercial first-place cube award was presented to New Homes Flooring, for their breathtaking development project, complete with Misty Grey herringbone from our Tundra collection, greeting a light and airy modern home design.
The final award of the evening, presented by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen was Best Retail Project. Sponsored by Bjelin, this award celebrated the success of our approved V4 stockists and their brilliant residential projects featuring our V4 engineered oak flooring solutions. In third place, we had Tile & Floor who beautifully installed our Tannery Brown herringbone from the Deco Parquet collection in this Grade II listed Georgian house in Wiltshire. With distressed detail on the floor, Tannery Brown was the perfect choice to blend modern design with the traditional style. In second place, we had Wellington Flooring with their 500-year-old Surrey home project. Complete with over 100 square metres of Kingswood, one of our hand-finished plank floors from the Heritage collection, the flooring beautifully mirrors the home’s history. The final award of the night was our first-place retail design winner, and this was presented to Moonwalk Flooring. The winning project features Shore Drift Oak from our Deco Parquet collection, which was expertly installed by the team at Moonwalk Flooring throughout the ground floor, offering a clean and bright Scandinavian-inspired design.
When discussing the celebration on the night, host Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen went on to say “I think it is incredibly important to celebrate what is going on in the design industry, because it is absolutely extraordinary. We are really beginning to encourage people to start creating spaces that absolutely reflect their personality and look how happy they are as a result”.
The TV presenter then went on to speak to the audience, which included flooring and design experts, saying… “We all should be extremely proud of where this industry is going. People are beginning to understand how special a floor like this is, and they are understanding this because of you lot. You are showing them, you are inspiring them, you are telling them how you can do things differently, and you are giving them choice.”
Laurence also shared with our guests his journey in redesigning his stunning 17th-century family home, where he personally selected our Black Walnut parquet for its rich tones and timeless elegance. Keep your eyes peeled for the full design story coming soon, as we sit down for Laurence to discuss all things sustainability and design! As a place where people instinctively gather, your open-plan kitchen deserves a flooring choice that is both practical and beautiful, and natural wood flooring fits the brief perfectly.
Today’s modern engineered wood flooring is incredibly versatile, available in a wide range of formats that offer flexibility and choice when selecting the best installation pattern, size, and style for your space. Homeowners and professionals really do have more choice than ever before.
Explore the V4 Collections and you’ll discover a variety of pattern styles designed to meet the latest flooring trends, offering ultimate adaptability to suit your project, design aspirations, and budget.
Before you start exploring all of our wood floors, here’s a quick guide to our different installation pattern options.
Plank
On paper, plank flooring may seem straightforward. However, within the V4 engineered collections, you’ll find several plank styles, each with its own distinctive design qualities.
Standard planks
While there’s no such thing as a truly ‘standard’ plank size, this category refers to wood floors supplied in packs of uniformly sized planks - all the same dimensions, typically mid-range in width and length (generally under 200mm wide and 2000mm long).
Our Alpine Collection (pictured above Upland Oak) features a selection of essential oak engineered wood floor designs which include planks of this format.
The Deco Plank Collection (pictured above White Smoked Oak) is also an excellent destination for this classic plank style.
These well-proportioned floors work beautifully in any space. Timeless, typically straightforward to install (subject to sub-floor preparation), and often budget-friendly.
Extra-long and extra-wide planks
If you’re looking to create a seamless, space-enhancing feel, extra-long or extra-wide planks can be a brilliant choice. Suitable not only for large rooms, these planks can also open up smaller spaces, creating a more expansive feel with a minimalistic design and fewer visible joins.
Our Driftwood Collection (pictured above Fjordic Shore) features predominantly extra-long planks, showcasing the natural beauty of oak with lengths of up to 2200mm and widths up to 200mm.
Another place to head for larger wood floor planks is our Urban Nature Collection (pictured above in Sandstone). Here you will find authentically rustic, lived-in engineered wood floors, generously proportioned with dimensions of 220mm x 2200mm.
Multi-length planks
Another option within the V4 Collections is multi-length plank flooring. Once installed, these floors offer a less uniform appearance, adding texture and individuality to your design.
They’re also often more budget-friendly, as smaller oak pieces can be used within the top layer of some of the planks.
Sunlit Oak, Vale Oak, Forest Oak, and Golden Oak (pictured above) are all examples of multi-length pack floors available in our Alpine Collection.
Three-strip planks
Lastly, within plank styles, we offer three-strip wood flooring. Popular in European interior design, these floors are made from individual rustic oak staves selected for variation and character, forming an intricate plank pattern that’s both visually engaging and organically pleasing.
Deckboard Oak (pictured above), from our Driftwood Collection, is our popular three-strip style.
Herringbone patterns
Parquet flooring has enjoyed a full renaissance in recent years, with modern herringbone designs leading the way.
Our engineered parquet blocks feature tongue-and-groove installation with a four-sided micro-bevel for added versatility. Choose a classic zig-zag weave herringbone layout, add block border detailing to complete the look, or explore bespoke designs such as basket weave, straight lay, or double herringbone.
The smaller scale of parquet blocks, compared to traditional planks, allows the natural character of the wood to shine through, creating an elevated aesthetic rich in tonal variation and texture.
Explore our stocked herringbone collection and find three size options to choose from;
Deco Herringbone (pictured above Shore Drift Oak) brings you well-proportioned blocks of 90mm x 400mm, produced from Premium European Oak and Black American Walnut.
Urban Nature Herringbone, where larger, rustic blocks measuring 120mm x 600mm are designed to showcase character and texture.
Tundra Herringbone (pictured above Misty Grey) – Slender blocks measuring 70mm x 490mm, creating an elongating effect that enhances grain detail and introduces striking multi-directional movement.
For an even bolder statement, our Prestige Collection offers a special-order option: Tundra XL Herringbone (pictured above Seashell). These engineered oak blocks measure 100mm x 500mm and use a cleaner AB grade oak for a smoother, ultra-contemporary herringbone look.
Chevron
With the resurgence of parquet patterns, and adding more choice to this more intricate approach to wood floor design, Chevron is now a staple wood floor pattern in interior design, bringing a refined elegance into home and commercial design.
Our Tundra Chevron Collection (pictured above Seashell) takes our popular Tundra Plank and Herringbone oak finishes, and re-creates them in chevron format. Once installed, the continuous V pattern creates the floor’s distinctive and eye-catching design.
Tundra Chevron features a 45° angle, with precision-milled blocks measuring 90mm x 610mm. The result is a generous, flowing pattern that adds elegance and visual impact to any space.
Versailles Panels
For a true nod to 16th-century parquet heritage, our Versailles-inspired engineered wood panels deliver timeless sophistication.
Each panel in the Baroque Collection measures an impressive 800mm x 800mm and features intricately interwoven wood blocks with integrated border detailing.
Once installed, the finished pattern brings a sense of grandeur and elegance to a room. This larger panel format also offers a more straightforward installation process compared to many smaller block parquet designs.

A signature choice in our engineered wood flooring collections for over 25 years, walnut flooring has never fallen out of favour, and for good reason.
Walnut flooring brings such an elegant foundation into a space with their deep alluring tones and timeless sophistication.
We’ve always loved walnut wood floors, and here are some of the reasons we think you should too.
Made from sustainably sourced American Black Walnut
The walnut used in the top layer of our engineered flooring is responsibly sourced from eastern America. Just like the oak used across many of our collections, our walnut is harvested using responsible forestry, sourced only from forests committed to long-term sustainable practices and reducing environmental impact.
A strong, striking, and durable floor finish
American Black Walnut is renowned for its rich, dark vibrancy and expressive grain. When showcased as flooring, these natural patterns create a sense of drama and depth that’s instantly captivating.
Beyond its beauty, walnut is valued for its strength and stability, making it a long-lasting choice for busy homes, and with proper care, walnut flooring remains stunning for years.
Tonal variety that enhances over time
One of the most charming characteristics of walnut wood flooring is the way it naturally deepens in tone as it matures. Over the years, your floor will develop richer colour and greater tonal variety, becoming even more beautiful with age. It’s a floor that truly grows with your home.
Choose from plank or parquet designs
Walnut is naturally expressive, so we keep our designs simple to let its rich tones shine without distraction. There’s no need for coloured oils or heavy surface treatments—walnut speaks for itself.
You can choose from two elegant formats:
Deco Walnut Planks
Plank dimensions: 190mm x 1900mm
14mm total thickness with a 3mm walnut top layer
Tongue-and-groove construction for a seamless, stable fit
Deco Walnut Herringbone
Herringbone block size: 90mm x 400mm
Same 14mm thickness with a 3mm walnut top layer
Perfect for creating a heritage-inspired statement pattern
A luxurious, silky-smooth surface
Whether you choose plank or herringbone styles, the walnut surface of our floors has been finely sanded to achieve a soft, silky surface, before being sealed with layers of clear oil. This finish enhances the natural beauty of the timber while delivering a hardwearing protective barrier. The result is a luxurious sheen with an opulent feel.
A Versatile Base for Minimalist or Colourful Interiors
Thanks to its rich tonal depth, walnut flooring works beautifully across a wide range of interior styles:
In minimalist spaces, it introduces warmth and character, allowing the darker tones and natural wood grain to become a focal point in the room.
In colourful or eclectic interiors, its variation and texture add balance, whilst bringing another layer of interest into the scheme.

Kerv Design, North London Basement
Interior Design firm Kerv Interiors were tasked with creating the ultimate relaxing atmosphere in the living and reading space of a London basement apartment where the homeowners wanted to spend time nestling into a good book, whilst enjoying a high-end aesthetic.
“We wanted to create a really cosy and relaxing atmosphere within the living room and reading space and we knew a walnut finish would be the perfect fit. We opted for the Deco Herringbone style to help create a lovely flow within the large space. It is a key design piece in the scheme, and we think it creates the perfect backdrop for the rest of the design”.

Laurance Llewelyn Bowen, Cotswolds
TV presenter and interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has always been known for his flamboyant designs that craft the perfect balance of personality and elegance, and his own family home design is no exception, a 17th-century estate nestled in the Cotswolds.
“I wanted to give our new living area and bedroom suite a stronger sense of rural luxury. I opted for Black Walnut as a herringbone to give that reference point to French chateaus. V4’s Black Walnut parquet has a fabulous chocolatey richness which is the perfect springboard for the colour pallets I then chose for these spaces."
