Georgian townhouse, Bath
A beautiful Georgian townhouse renovation in Bath featuring Deco Parquet herringbone oak floors
Our latest featured install comes from this beautiful Georgian townhouse located in the centre of historic Bath. Moving from London to the gorgeous property, the new owners enlisted Bath Bespoke, a specialist design, joinery and flooring company, to work with them to help complete a sympathetic renovation which would play to the high ceilings, classical proportions and original Georgian style of the home – whilst delivering a modern twist.
"Each room was given individual interrogation as part of the design process, maintaining style principles that would be present throughout the home, but with each room created to play out to its own use and individual nuances."
Forest Green Dining was the theme for the dining room. Situated on the ground floor at the side of the house, the room benefited from a beautiful exposed original stone wall. The couple wanted to keep the character within the space and create a warm sociable atmosphere. New bespoke panelling completes the remaining walls, with a six panel design inspired to complement the existing internal doors and maintain heritage styles. Classic heritage was the style for the master bedroom. Bespoke wardrobes were designed with a classic period feel and flat panel doors, again featuring the six panel detailing, crafted from tulip, a beautiful hardwood ideal for furniture. Specifying the floors for these two rooms the brief was to find a style of flooring that would add another layer of detailing and play to the heritage styles that featured in the spaces. Working with their clients, Bath Bespoke introduced the couple to V4’s collections and suggested Deco Parquet oak blocks could be an ideal solution. They agreed, and unfinished oak blocks from the Deco Parquet collection were chosen for the dining room and master bedroom.
“Opting for the unfinished blocks allowed the floors to be bespoke finished in Rubio Monocoat Charcoal oil, which was recommended by V4 and adds beautiful detailing to the rooms and a bespoke colour finish that is the perfect blend with the bespoke joinery and design features.”
“The finished spaces look incredible. The designs and finishes chosen combine a mix of authenticity from the period of the homes build, but with modernity delivered in just the right amounts. Little touches such as mid-century modern furniture and LED lighting playfully pop out against the traditional styles – all set off with the rich detail of the dark oiled Deco Parquet engineered oak floors.”
Featured Flooring
ZB107 Unfinished Oak
Rustic oak is filled and sanded smooth and left unfinished so that it can be installed and then coloured to suit any design or simply lacquered or oiled for a completely natural look. The small blocks come from the a long tradition of parquet floors and are fitted in a traditional herringbone formation but at a more contemporary oversized scale which works in all spaces big and small. Unlike traditional blocks, the Deco Parquet range of floors are engineered with a 4 mm refinished oak wear layer with bevelled edges bonded to a hardwood ply base, which means they can be bonded to any flat surface including over low energy underfloor heating systems. ZB107 Rustic Oak is filled and sanded smooth and left unfinished so that it can be installed and then coloured to suit any design or simply lacquered or oiled for a completely natural look. IMPORTANT NOTE: This floor must be coated with a suitable oil of lacquer at the time of installation and before it is in use. This will affect the finished appearance
