Ground floor Renovation, Cobham

In the Surrey countryside, interior design firm Slightly Quirky completed a ground-floor renovation using Smoked Oak herringbone from V4âs Deco Parquet collection.
Established in 2006, the Interior design firm Slightly Quirky offers a bespoke service tailored to each clientâs needs, helping them create fresh, bold, and innovative solutions for home renovations. Taking a unique approach to each project, managing director Caroline and the team excel at creating inspired and exclusive spaces that reflect the lifestyles and personalities of their clients, and this early 20th-century Surrey home was no exception. Using our Smoked Oak parquet floor, the team created a warming ground floor design that was not only sympathetic to the houseâs heritage but also to the surrounding garden space around this countryside home.
âWe worked on the overall space planning of the ground floor, including a large rear extension, reconfiguring the space to incorporate a large kitchen-dining-lounge space for a lot of entertaining. The client was happy with bold colours, they had lots of beautiful artwork which they wanted to incorporate, and we took inspiration for the colour palette from these pieces. Incorporating a lot of glass so the garden very much became part of the space was also important and as such, natural colour sand materials, such as wood, were also important to the clientâ.
Caroline and the team selected Smoked Oak herringbone from our Deco Parquet collection to flow throughout the ground floor of this project. Bursting with character, this European oak floor has been smoked to bring out the natural, varied tones of the wood before being finished with a hardwearing UV oil, which offers a hardwearing and durable finish. Available in both plank and parquet, this beautiful oak floor is perfect for any period property renovations that want to introduce contemporary materials, such as engineered wood flooring, whilst still remaining sympathetic to the original architecture of the house, as Caroline went on to explainâŠ
âThe client really wanted to use wood in the scheme; we chose parquet as it felt authentic to the period of the property and gives a beautiful feel and flow to the spaces. We chose the Smoked Oak as it was a great base tone to use in multiple spaces: we ran the parquet from the reception room, into the dining room and into the office as wellâ.
The final design was a classic, warm and inviting style, which, as Caroline went on to say, the Smoked Oak parquet really lent itself to: âThe design throughout the house was authentic, homely, welcoming and warm, with a natural, autumnal colour scheme, so the natural wood worked really well. The smoked oak herringbone adds a real warmth and texture to the schemeâ. Before going on to discuss their favourite part of the designâŠ
âOur favourite part of the design is how it all flows together yet still has individual style in each spaceâ.

ZB201 Smoked Oak
ZB201 Smoked Oak has a deep natural brown colour created by the fuming process. The rustic oak top layer is stored in a Smoking chamber and exposed to processes that darken and enrich the natural wood colours. This is ideal for designers where rich tonal variety is preferred. Unlike traditional parquet blocks, the Deco Parquet range of floors are engineered with a thick oak top layer with bevelled edges bonded to a hardwood ply base, which means they can be bonded to any flat surface including over low energy underfloor heating systems. Their unique sizing means they can be installed in many different patterns. Also available in a matching plank.
