Kerv Interiors, North London

Basement renovation in North London using ZB205 Black Walnut herringbone to create a cosy reading space that the homeowners wouldnât want to leave.
Interior Designer firm Kerv Interiors was no stranger to helping homeowners create the design of their dreams, and this basement renovation featuring our Black Walnut in herringbone was no exception. Designers Emily and Victoria were tasked with creating the ultimate relaxing atmosphere across a living and reading space, where the homeowners wanted to spend a lot of time nestling into a good book, whilst enjoying a high-end aesthetic.
âOur clients love the Soho Home aesthetic and its subtle use of colours and patterns and luxury finishes. This influenced the colour choices and furniture like the velvet sofa and armchairs, the bespoke patterned footstool, and of course the walnut herringbone floor.â
With luxury patterns and finishes in mind, when it came to the flooring, Kerv opted for Black Walnut herringbone from our Deco Parquet collection in the living space and reading area. Available in both plank and herringbone, our Black Walnut floor embodies the luxurious design the client envisioned, whilst adding a cosy warmth that makes the reading nook an inviting space to unwind.
âWe wanted to create a really cosy and relaxing atmosphere within the living room and reading space and we knew the walnut finish would be the perfect fit. We opted for the herringbone style to help create a lovely flow within the large space⊠It is a key design piece in the scheme and we think it creates the perfect backdrop for the rest of the designâ.
Crafted from sustainably sourced American Black Walnut, this herringbone flooring showcases a rich blend of deep chocolate, caramel, and coffee tones. Installed by V4 partner We Know Flooring, its intricate pattern enhances the woodâs natural grain variation, bringing depth and timeless elegance to the space. This made it the perfect choice for Kerv Interiors, who wanted to complement the basementâs ambient lighting and bring warmth and sophistication to the design.
When discussing why Black Walnut was chosen for the space, Kerv Interiors went on to say, âWe instantly felt that a darker wood finish would work best with our overall design and wanted to lean into the darker/lower light within the basement space. We love so many of the V4 flooring options but for this design, we knew the herringbone style was the right fit.â
When looking back on the overall design and colour scheme of the space, Kerv said âWe wanted to create a classy but cosy space that you wanted to spend lots of time relaxing inâ, before going on to reflect on their favourite element of the designâŠ
âIt has to be the tiled fireplace alcove! We love the pops of different colours against the neutral tiles, which contrasts beautifully with the darker walnut herringbone flooring – making the feature really stand out within the room.”

ZB205 Black Walnut
The American Black Walnut top layer is smooth sanded and sealed with UV cured natural oil. Unlike traditional parquet blocks, the Deco Parquet range of floors are engineered with a thick oak top layer with bevelled edges bonded to a hardwood ply base, which means they can be bonded to any flat surface including over low energy underfloor heating systems. Their unique sizing means they can be installed in many different patterns. ZB205 Black Walnut is also available in a matching plank.
