A brand built on a love for bold design, KERV Interiors is home to interior designers Emily and Victoria. Having worked with V4 on several projects before, we are no strangers to seeing beautiful designs from KERV, and this semi-detached home in Leeds was no exception. Dating back to the 1970s, the house was in need of updating to bring the client a large open space filled with light, as the KERV team explained

“The house is a 1970s semi-detached just outside of Leeds and the brief was to create a more open space combining the kitchen, dining and living room better. A structural wall was knocked down to make this work, and we kept the overall feel light and airy with some soft colour selections in certain areas to bring interest.”

A structural wall wasn’t the only thing knocked down in the renovation. In the kitchen, the upper cabinets were torn down, opening up the wall space adding space and emphasizing the natural light. Continuing the goal of creating light, the oak cupboard doors were replaced with off-white coloured shaker style doors and black worksurfaces updated with a white marble finish, perfectly achieving the desired, airy feel. Despite losing the upper cabinets, no storage was lost in the kitchen, as the team designed the perfect storage solution, as the team explained: “We love the oversized pantry – kitchen goals to have a good size pantry, right?! So, it was great to be able to fit this in the design.”

In addition to the restructuring, the team added also worked on creating an inviting space for the client to enjoy the views of the surrounding nature, as they explained

“Apart from trying to make the space as open plan as possible the clients really wanted a log burning stove and some reading chairs to relax on – we positioned this right by the bi-fold doors as they have a lovely garden to look out on.”

When it came to the flooring, Victoria and Emily decided to use out with Frozen Umber herringbone from our Deco Parquet collection. This beautiful European Oak is brushed, and colour-oiled, creating a muted-oak-toned floor with the utmost versatility when it comes to pairing with other colours throughout your design. What’s more, this floor is FSC¼ 100% certified and UKTR compliant, meaning you can rest assured the materials are responsibly sourced, perfect for homeowners with sustainability in mind. When discussing why Frozen Umber was chosen, the KERV team explained

“The client was always keen to have wooden floors which we were happy about as it instantly adds depth and warmth to any room. We chose Frozen Umber because of the variation of the tone and texture in the planks – it is a big enough space to take this and also the herringbone is a timeless look.”

The end result was a complete transformation, with our Frozen Umber herringbone running throughout the downstairs to create a cohesive design, whilst allowing each space to possess its own identity. From the off-white tones in the kitchen to the pops of red in the lounge, Frozen Umber compliments every space, perfect for any design.
