Fitness Entrepreneur, Former Made in Chelsea star and influencer Louise Thompson with her fiancé and entrepreneur Ryan Libby began the journey of renovating their London home in the spring of 2021. This process saw an extension to the rear, creating a large open space for the family kitchen, along with a complete interior renovation throughout the London townhouse. With their bespoke Lewis James luxury Kitchen designed, and paint colours chosen, it was time for the couple to decide on the dream floor for their family home. To that end, Louise and Ryan visited our Surrey Design Centre, as Louise explained on her Instagram

“Nothing is more satisfying than receiving multiple messages from different interior designers on Instagram asking where I sourced certain materials from
We got all our floors from @v4woodflooring whose team were some of the nicest people I've ever met. We met with quite a few flooring companies, but these guys had by far the most variety of samples to choose from and were also the most friendly and helpful. They have a showroom in Woking which is definitely worth a visit. It’s conveniently located just outside Southwest London and right by Ryan's brother's house in Surrey, so we popped in a few times.”

In the end, the couple decided to go with our White Smoked Oak in herringbone and plank, as Louise explained, when discussing the renovation: “One of the things that has not disappointed and that I’m so glad we invested in was good flooring. We picked this floor during our trip to [V4 Wood Flooring’s] Surrey Design Centre where we spoke with the team who helped us find our perfect wood floor. We chose White Smoked Oak in the herringbone [and plank] style which is brilliant for adding a natural charm to any design.”

White Smoked Oak, available in plank and parquet, is a unique floor filled with natural charm and character. The rustic European oak has been smoked to enhance the natural variety of tones throughout each board, before being sealed with a white UV oil to create a contemporary, muted-oak hue. At 1900mm long and 190mm wide, the planks are perfect for drawing your eye along a room and opening up the space; whilst the 400mm long parquet blocks are great for creating a seamless design that flows throughout an open plan room.

When discussing the flooring, Louise explained

“This wood is a really lovely colour (trust me I looked at buckets) because it’s neutral and goes with everything
There are lots of natural features within the wood that we chose. The herringbone pieces are all slightly different shades which adds a lot of character. We’ve had several compliments on the colour and the quality, so I’d definitely say it’s worth a sample…”

When it came to furnishings, the rustic oak planks beautifully complemented the teal blue walls in the library, whilst Louise and Ryan coupled the contemporary parquet kitchen floor with both white walls and units, contrasted by a navy-blue island to create a design filled with depth and light. The kitchen-come-dining room was then completed with one of our bespoke Lineage Solid Oak tables and benches, in the colour Mars Madder, continuing the use of natural materials throughout the design. Available in a variety of sizes and colours, these made-to-order table and seating options are the perfect addition to any home.
