Plank & Parquet, Putney

Situated in the charming riverside district of Putney, London, interior designer Emmanuelle Sirven undertook a drastic house renovation, transforming a closed-concept home into a beautiful open-plan space. Using décor as a tool to define clear zones within the house, along with ZB203 White Smoked Oak and DC204 Shore Drift Oak, both from our Deco collection, Emmanuelle was able to create a stunning final design for the family she was working with. Although this project was no small task, with nearly two decades of experience behind her, E.S. Interiors was the perfect team for this renovation.

“I needed to create open spaces, perspectives and a flow of light in the ground floor that used to be completely compartmented. And on the upper floors, the bathrooms were very badly shaped, not easy to use at all, and I had to create a new bedroom on the top floor. So, a lot of space design. And quite a large house for a family of 5, the design scheme was wonderful to create. Each member had wishes and needs to I managed to reply to and execute perfectly.”

Speaking on where Emmanuelle draws her inspiration for projects such as this home renovation, she shared that her “various projects have been an inspiration from private homes to public spaces and  from classic moulded Parisian flats to contemporary office buildings.”

For this project, two of our floors were used to elevate the home’s ambience: ZB203 White Smoked Oak and DC204 Short Drift Oak. These floors were chosen to help separate the living and the sleeping areas within the house while adding a modern touch to the overall design that the clients loved, Emmanuelle shared

“Putting large planks there [the living space] was a great move as we can now read the rooms from one end to the other. The clients also have quite a modern taste in design, so it works well with the rest of the decor and furniture.”

Our White Smoked Oak is available in plank and parquet. After being smoked to enhance the natural oak’s varied tones, it is finished with a hardwearing white oil. This character-packed floor is the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional design, making it a great choice for this project.

Shore Drift Oak plank is the ideal choice for those looking to create an illusion of space. The long planks encourage the eye to gaze along the board, lengthening any space. The invisible UV natural lacquer maintains the look of natural oak colouring, making it an excellent choice for people wanting to create a sense of light in darker rooms.

As with every floor in our Deco plank collection, this beautiful, engineered oak floor also has a herringbone counterpart, which featured in in the bedroom, as Emmanuelle went on to explain: “That is was chosen as its size fitted well with the bedrooms volumes and they give a feel of cosiness and more traditional pattern that compliments the heritage features that we put forward or re-introduce in these rooms”. The final design seamlessly combined timeless charm with a modern twist, utilising bold colours to highlight some of the home’s period features, such as the fireplaces and high ceilings. The carefully selected flooring added depth and visual flow to the rooms, drawing the eye toward the bright, light-filled spaces, particularly the stunning large bay windows.
