Victorian property undergoes renovation with Hoban Design featuring Seashell Chevron

Hoban Design is an architecture and design firm based in Wimbledon that works throughout London, Surrey, and the South-East of England, working with clients to create amazing spaces both residentially and commercially. The current project was no exception, as the team working with a family of four, turning a Victorian Semi-detached property that the homeowners had fallen out of love with, and turning it into a functional and aesthetically pleasing design that exceeded the family’s expectations. When discussing the project, Hoban Design’s Senior Interior Designer explained:

“The house is a Victorian semi-detached property in Twickenham. Originally 3 stories with a closet wing, it had been previously extended to the side at upper and lower ground floors, and the loft had been converted. The works were old and not executed well, the clients had been living with the house and ‘making do’ for some time. Once appointed it became clear they wanted a complete gut job of the house to bring it right up to modern living standards. In terms of aesthetics what was originally seen as potentially ‘safe’ and ‘classic’ interior design for this age of house became much more unique and interesting. The final scheme mixes classic and contemporary elements to great effect.”

And so, with a complete renovation set to begin, the team worked hard to create a design that would offer the family a practical space for their growing family, whilst also offering them a design that they could fall back in love with and be proud to show off to their family and friends. The original brief was to extend and re-work the existing house to suit them as a young family of four.

The lower ground floor was to be the hub of the home with sociable, yet functional, family spaces – not fully open plan, more broken plan and flexible for varied use as the family grows. The clients wanted a house they could be proud of and show off to their friends – they had really fallen out of love with it. That’s what the team delivered: ‘We can’t quite believe this is our house. It is just far beyond our expectations. We just can’t thank you enough.’ When it came to the flooring, Seashell Chevron was selected from our Tundra Collection.

Seashell is a rustic grade floor, light in colour and complete with a brushed and oiled surface layer. Its engineered construction makes it perfect for underfloor heating, whilst the 45° angled headers fit perfectly together to form the chevron pattern, offering a contemporary twist on a classic 17th Century French herringbone style floor. Seashell was the perfect fit for this family’s design brief, as Eleanor explains:

“The clients knew they wanted a contemporary chevron flooring within the house, so we needed to source one that looked great but was also well priced. We were recommended V4 Flooring and loved the sample floor they had in their showroom. Seashell has a lovely contemporary tone to it, as it is not too yellow nor too grey, and is a great size. It worked really well with the rest of the interiors. Complementing and adding softness to the harder finishes of the mosaic tiled hallway or the beautiful polished concrete floor”.

In closing, Elanor went on to say, we were very impressed by the finished product and have already specified V4 flooring on some of our other projects. To keep up to date with Hoban Design’s latest projects, check out their Instagram, here.
