Studio Milne, Walthamstow

Interior Design firm Studio Milne uses ZB102 Nordic Beach to create a fresh, bright family space in a Victorian terrace.
Nestled in the scenic outskirts of St Jamesâs Park, Walthamstow, husband and wife Amber and Andy took on the exciting project of taking their Victorian Terrace house and turning it into a bright and open family home. To help create the relaxing design they had in mind, the couple turned to Studio Milne, having seen first-hand the fantastic work Ruth, founder of the interior design firm, and her team have created. With an eye for maximising the potential of every project she has worked on and a wealth of experience working in Londonâs residential real estate, Ruth was the perfect partner to help the family lean into their love of Scandi design. From natural materials including our ZB102 Nordic Beach, to adding skylights to enhance the roomâs natural brightness, Ruth successfully created the tranquil design they were after.
âThe couple saw some of my work using birch ply at one of their friendâs houses, loved it and got in touch. They like minimal, Scandi-style interiors and wanted the room to feel light and airy, so this was our starting point for the designs. I was working with quite a small footprint, so I had to plan carefully to make the most of the space.â
When discussing the challenges the family faced with their home, Ruth highlighted the limitations of a Victorian house. From smaller rooms restricting open-plan living to the lack of natural light – often a drawback for homeowners – Ruth and the team at Studio Milne had to meticulously plan every step of the renovation, as she explainedâŠ
“The kitchen was quite limited, so it took carefully thought-out design to fit everything in. The drawers and cupboards under the island were crucial for storage with room for spices and tableware, then the long shallow cabinetry has storage cupboards running all the way along.â
When it came to the flooring, Ruth chose ZB102 Nordic Beach, an engineered oak herringbone from our Deco Parquet collection to help create the light, airy space desired for the Scandi-inspired design, as Ruth commented âThe Nordic beach V4 product pairs so well with birch ply with its whitewash grain, it creates a lovely Scandi feel”.
From our Deco Parquet collection, Nordic Beach is crafted with rustic-grade European oak, which is carefully brushed to enhance the natural texture, allowing white oil to settle into the grain. This creates a stunning blend of golden oak tones with soft, Nordic-inspired highlights – bringing a warm yet contemporary edge to the space. With its bevelled edges and robust hardwood ply base, this engineered wood floor is designed for both style and practicality, making it perfect for the busy family home.
Available in both herringbone and plank formats, Nordic Beach offers versatility in design, ensuring a timeless yet modern finish. Feeling inspired? ZB102 Nordic Beach
ZB102 Nordic Beach has a thick European rustic oak surface which is brushed and textured so that white oil settles in the grain of this bevel edged, engineered herringbone wood flooring. This results in a golden oak floor with white grain that creates a mixture of sunshine and cool Nordic vibes. Unlike traditional parquet blocks, the Deco Parquet range of floors are engineered with a thick oak top layer with bevelled edges bonded to a hardwood ply base, which means they can be bonded to any flat surface including over low energy underfloor heating systems. Their unique sizing means they can be installed in many different patterns. Also available in a matching plank.
